The dentists

Two dentists who started their careers in Northern Ontario and chose a small town on purpose.

Dr. Mohamed Latifi

Western University, 2019

Takes his time explaining every procedure, so you know what to expect before it starts.

Dr. Mohamed Latifi graduated from Western University in London, ON in June 2019. He graduated with honours and was awarded the Glenn Walker award, given annually to a graduating student from the DDS/ITD program who has demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, leadership, interpersonal and clinical skills.

Dr. Latifi practised in Geraldton, Northern Ontario for two years before moving down to Hanover. He likes the small-town feel and prefers it to big city life.

Dr. Latifi takes the utmost care and precision in his work. He likes to take his time explaining dental procedures to patients so that they know what to expect during any procedure. Having served as class president during his school years, giving back to the community comes naturally. He enjoys cooking and trying out winter sports including snowboarding and curling, and loves watching football and spending time with his wife and children.

Dr. Nadia Shaikh

Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, 2019

Care tailored to each person, whether that means a brighter smile or an end to pain.

Dr. Shaikh graduated from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2019 and began her dental career in rural Ontario, serving the communities of Longlac and Geraldton alongside her husband. For two years she cared for a close-knit population, where she developed a deep appreciation for small-town living and the meaningful connections it fosters. In 2021 she moved to Hanover to focus on starting her family while continuing to grow her career.

As a dentist, she is passionate about creating positive changes in her patients’ lives. Whether it’s restoring confidence with a brighter smile or alleviating pain to improve quality of life, she takes pride in providing compassionate, patient-centred care. Her approach is tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs, and she finds great fulfilment in helping patients achieve their healthiest smiles.

Beyond her work she is an avid explorer with a love of wilderness and small-town charm. Always eager for new adventures, she once considered moving to Yellowknife and hopes to someday earn her pilot’s licence, combining her passion for exploration with her fascination for airplanes. She is currently embracing the joys of motherhood with her growing family.

Dr. Latifi and Dr. Shaikh are both accepting new patients. 519-596-1035

Dr. Pasquale (Pat) Duronio, who founded the Owen Sound practice.

Dr. Pasquale (Pat) Duronio — Retired December 2025

Continuing a tradition of care in Owen Sound

Simply Dentistry was established by Dr. Pat Duronio, who cared for patients in Owen Sound until his retirement in December 2025. Today Dr. Mohamed Latifi and Dr. Nadia Shaikh continue the practice, in the same office, with the same commitment to personal, community-minded dentistry.

If you were one of Dr. Duronio’s patients, nothing about where you go has changed — same office on 2nd Avenue East, same phone number.

Read Dr. Duronio’s story

Dr. Pasquale (Pat) Duronio is a graduate of the Western University Faculty of Dentistry. For most of his career he practised in Windsor, Ontario, becoming the first Italian-speaking dentist in a city of approximately 20,000 Italians.

While in Windsor, Dr. Duronio became involved in community organizations. He worked with the AIDS Committee of Windsor to provide care for patients who could not find a dentist to help them, worked with the refugee settlement office to provide dental screenings and treatment for refugees from all over the world, and designed and operated a dental clinic in Riverview Hospital, the city’s original chronic care hospital.

In 1983 he was one of the dentists who signed the charter of the Academy of Sports Dentistry in San Antonio, Texas. He studied jaw, head and neck pain at the Craniofacial Pain Institute in Washington, D.C., and trained in the use of surgical lasers.

In 2006 Dr. Duronio and his wife, Carol Ann, moved to Lion’s Head, Ontario, where he practised until 2020 and joined the staff of Grey Bruce Health Services at the Lion’s Head Hospital emergency department. Since 2015 he has joined an annual trip sponsored by Health Mission Outreach Canada to Paraguay, providing free dental and medical care, and he volunteered in the dental department of a temporary hospital on St. Lucia after St. Jude’s Hospital burned to the ground.

Dr. Duronio and his wife moved to Owen Sound to be closer to their four young grandchildren, and he opened this office to truly become part of the community. He officially retired in December 2025.

He makes you feel very comfortable and is very gentle. I would highly recommend him if you need or want to change your dentist.

For the first time ever, I have a dentist who is not only excellent at his craft, but also very gentle and reassuring, and makes me feel completely comfortable.
Cheryl Ebel 2 years ago
Very gentle, very kind, and actually was more concerned and helpful about my chronic headaches than my doctor or chiropractor.
